Depending on your skin, and health and if you come for touch-ups, your semi-permanent tattoo will last for a few years.
Here are some factors that will cause your semi-permanent tattoo to fade faster:
• Oily skin
• Retinol or Vitamin C
• Iron deficiency
• Sun exposure
• Exfoliants
• Exposure to salt water
• Overall health
Getting a cosmetic tattoo can be a little uncomfortable depending on your pain tolerance, but overall, it’s completely bearable. Strong numbing is used throughout and my technique is very gentle.
You may use a pre-numbing cream if you wish but do discuss this with me before the day.
Touch-ups are recommended for everybody. On touch-up sessions, we can alter the shape and colour of your brow or lip tattoo, make the colour more intense, or fill in spots that didn’t retain pigment as well as other areas during healing. Touch-ups will also add longevity to the life of your tattoo.
Yes, you can have lip blush if you have lip filler. Lip filler does not interfere with the process of tattooing lips or the results in any way.
Note that lip filler and lip blush appointments MUST be at least 4 weeks apart from each other.
Lip blush tattoo procedure can trigger cold sores for carriers of the herpes simplex virus. To prevent cold sores from flaring up, it is recommended to go to your GP and get a course of antiviral medication prescribed to take 5 days prior procedure, the day of, and 5 days after.
Note that a cold sore outbreak can alter the healed results of the tattoo. This is very important to discuss during consultation.
As mentioned, there are a few things you’ll need to do to prepare for your cosmetic tattoo procedure.
First, you’ll need to avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before the treatment. This means wearing sunscreen and a hat when outdoors.
You’ll also need to avoid blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and garlic supplements for at least 3 days, preferably a week, before the procedure. These can thin your blood and increase the risk of bleeding during the tattooing process.
Other precautions to take include:
• Don’t work out the day of your appointment
• No caffeine on the day of your appointment
• No alcohol 24 hours before your appointment
• No anti-aging products such as Retinol or AHAs/BHAs around the eyebrow area one week before your appointment (Retinoid a month before)
• No waxing, tweezing, or other brow treatments one week before the procedure
• No suntanning, botox, or any facial procedures 4 weeks before the procedure.
After your eyebrow tattoo procedure, you will experience some liquid excretion (lymph fluid), redness, and swelling. Blot your brows every 15 minutes for the first few hours so that this liquid does not get the chance to crust over. To help with the healing process, it is recommended:
• Do not touch or pick at your brows
• Sleep with your head elevated on pillows and on your back
• Blot your brows completely dry immediately after cleansing
• Avoid leaving your brows wet
• Apply a very thin layer of ointment to your brows morning and night as well as Bepanthen Antiseptic twice daily
• Avoid sun exposure and saunas for 2 weeks
• Do not work out for a week or until the scabs are all gone
• Avoid chlorine pool and salt water for 2 weeks
• No makeup on and around the brows for at least 3-5 days after the procedure or until all the scabs or flaking is completely gone.
Aftercare is important for all types of tattoos. We want nice and clean healing tattoos as possible.
Following aftercare instructions helps to minimise the thick scabs, the risk of infection, and other complications, such as scarring. It also helps ensure that your tattoo heals properly and lasts as long as possible.
